Feed mechanism
In this article, we will learn about the Feed Mechanism. The metal cut is done by feeding the following in the slotter.
1. Longitudinal feed
2. Cross feed
3. Circular feed
4.Automatic feed
1. Longitudinal feed
A longitudinal feed is given when the table is moved to the column or moved out of the column.
2. Cross feed
Move the table parallel to the face of the column and feed it is called cross feed.
3. Circular feed
Rotating the rotary table in its vertical axis is called the circular feed. The feed is given at the end of the return stroke. The feed can be delivered by hand or by automatic.
4. Automatic feed
In the slotter driving mechanism, the cam groove is cut in the bull gear u face area. A roller follower is a slide. One end of a lever has a roller end and the other end a slot. The lever is pivoted at its center. A feed adjustment pin is fitted in the lever I slot. This pin is connected to the pawl and ratchet mechanism by a connecting rod.
The follower moves in the groove when the bull gear is spinning. The lever i slotted end moves up and down as the cam groove u lobe portion passes through the follower.
This causes the pawl to rotate the ratchet wheel. The key is connected to the feed shaft by the key. This feed shaft is attached to the Ratchet longitudinal, cross, and rotary feed screw. This makes automatic feed available.
