BROACHING

In this article, we will learn about Types Of Broaching Machines. Broaching is the name of a metal removal method using a multi-point cutting tool called Broach.

Types of Broaching Machines

1. Horizontal broaching machine.
2. Vertical broaching machine.
3. Continuous broaching machine.

1. Horizontal broaching machine

The moving broach in the horizontal direction is the pull-type broach. Metal is removed when Broach is pulled through the workpiece. A horizontal broaching machine is used for more internal broaching and also for external broaching.
The length of the box-shaped bed in this machine is slightly greater than the length of the broach a stroke.

Broaching Machine

An adapter is fitted to hold the workpiece on the front of the machine. The small end of the broach is attached to the pulling head through the hole in the workpiece. The back end of Broach is supported by a guide.

Hydraulic drive you Broach pulling head Cut metal when pulling. After the cutting stroke, the pulling head will return to its original position. Broach end is disconnected from the workflow. Then the machining workload is removed and the new workpiece is removed. Using this machine you can create keyway, spines, slot, round holes, etc.

2. Vertical broaching machine

In the vertical broaching machine the broach moves in the vertical direction and is commonly used as a push-type broach. Is used Broach is fitted on a slide. Running on the hydraulic drive, this slide moves up and down in the vertical guideways in the column. The workpiece is captured in the fixture fitted to the work table. A surface broaching method is shown in the figure.

Broaching Machine

It does not have teeth throughout the width of the broach tool. The tooth will be a set of 4. A set of teeth cuts the middle of the workpiece. B and C intersect with the rest of the workflow. D will finish the entire area. This type of broaching is called progressive broaching. Single piece broach is sufficient if the width of the work is small.

3. Continuous broaching machines

A continuous broaching machine is used for machining a large number of small parts. Its types.

1. Horizontal continuous broaching machine
2. Rotary continuous broaching machine

1. Horizontal Continuous Broaching Machine

This machine has two rotating drums. The two drums are connected by a chain. Movement is given in a drum. The fixture is fitted throughout the length of the chain. The workpiece is fitted in a node fixture. Broach horizontally on the frame of the machine. Machining is done when the workflow comes under this broach. Once the unloading is done, the machining material will fall out of the fixture.

2. Rotary continuous broaching machine

In this case, the broach is stationary and the table is rotated with the object. Small workpieces are captured on a rotary table by continuous broaching machine fixture. The broach is fitted in the center of the rotary table in a fixed broach holder.

Broaching Machine

It contains 3 broach tools. The first two broach tools are used for rough cut and third broach tool for finishing cut. The table is rotated when the workflow moves over the broach. The workload is unloaded after the finishing broach is loaded and the new workload is loaded into the fixture. Loading and unloading are done without stopping the table.
